Automaker Lexus and satellite radio provider Sirius have announced an expansion on their partnership that will bring Sirius into ears of Canadian Lexus drivers beginning next month.
A dealer installed option, customers can specify the package for installation on all 2008 model year Lexus IS, ES, GS, RX, and GX vehicles, and the dealer-installed receivers come with a trial subscription to Sirius. Parent company Toyota has already been offering satellite radio in selected models since earlier this year- namely the Camry, Tundra and FJ Cruiser.
This sort of partnership is common with many carmakers today. Generally, receivers are installed with a short (usually 3-month) subscription to satellite radio, in hopes that the customer will choose to maintain their subscription to the service when the trial period ends.
Sirius has already partnered up with carmakers like Audi, BMW, Dodge, Mini, Mazda, Ford, Jaguar, Lincoln, and Subaru to bring Canadian drivers a wide selection of music and entertainment. Sirius's automotive partners make up some 60% of the canadian market.
Sirius satellite radio offers over 100 channels and costs around $15 per month.
